revelation ep is the debut release of australian record label denude, showcasing the latest work of melbourne based artist eddie hale. the title track revelation is both driving and warm - layered percussion lines rise and fall amongst detroit inspired stabs and subtly textured elements creating an infectious and uplifting groove. a2’s surging is both tunnelling and driving - straight into late night / early hours territory - with swirling sounds forming a hypnotizing sonic bath for the body and mind. rounding up the a side with a change of pace, aperture’s syncopated percussion leads us on a peaceful detour through ethereal synthscapes as we follow the round journey of an evolving sound that travels full circle. on the flip, joel mull’s hypno mix of revelations propels the listener with mechanical precision through dizzyingly expansive atmospheres of truly mind melting proportions. closing out the ep is terrace of an elephant, tranquil and reflective synth-work juxtaposed with coloured stabs striking through like comets across the night sky - brings us back down to earth in a contemplative mood.

dormancy is a mesh machine-like tweaks and dramatic themes that may have been inert until eddie hales songcraft forces it to stagger and sway with the synthetic rhythm. the title track begins with breathy synths and builds up its momentum with the bouncing beat. impulses is a dramatic dance floor track, fencing chords tangle with the rhythm that pulses constantly. bustling and elastic sound of variant 1 evokes the body to move along its excitable groove. the tensile theme of ju-6 never looses its cools with the stagger drums. jon hesters remix of dormancy keeps the overall theme but adding an old school approach as the track builds up with creamy synths juxtaposed with the clangy percussion.

originally released on the seminal london housing benefit imprint,straight out of swag records many labels, swag classics 003 is the work of eddie richards and gideon jackson. since its 2001 debut the ‘a side biscuit barrel blues has steadily become what you might call a bonafide, 100% kosher tech house classic. delighting clued up clubbers the world over with its laid back, but strangely compelling, effortlessly driving groove, its a track thats grown in stature with each passing year. the other side pull tab to open (bit of a fast food theme going on here) is another dance floor gem in the original tech house style. now available again on vinyl for the first time in 17 years.

eddie fowlkes is one of detroits finest, still working doggedly to push his own distinct spin on the motor city sound. hes taking no prisoners on this latest 12inch on his own detroit wax label, bringing a tough and righteous rhythm to the foreground on give it up for my dj with some of those head spinning melodic flourishes that are his trademark. love works is a crooked groover that piles the bass on generously and keeps the swing up high if this one doesnt get bodies jerking then nothing will. no-one does it quite like fowlkes, and hes on impeccable form here.

the 20/20 vision offshoot basic vision continues to mine the folklore of the legendary back to basics with a selection of carefully selected deep cuts from the history of house music. chris cuevas hip hop already sounded strong when masters at work chunked it up in dub form, and then rob mello perfected the jam when he performed an extended edit on the breakbeat fuelled jam. eddie fowlkes where will i be? is a classic slice of 90s vocal house, while free energy is an uptempo deep house jam for those feel good peak time moments. black science orchestra sound utterly timeless on the soaring new jersey deep, laying the soul on thick and keeping things fresh and funky throughout.
